1. Being inspired.

To be inspiring, one must be inspired first. A manager can be inspired by a project, by communication with direct reports and colleagues, by a process of nurturing people.

Everyone has their motives. The more people you have grown up, the more times you are a manager.

For me personally, seeing employee’s progress and growth is the most powerful motivation that can ever be on the way of developing another person.

It’s like planting a tree: you can dig a planting hole, place a tree at the proper height, mulch the base of a tree, and water it. But to see the most desirable fruits of your labor you need to provide a tree with follow up care as well. Otherwise, it would grow as an average tree.

2. Listening and hear.

These skills are useful not only for good managers but for all human beings. By listening and understanding an interlocutor you are building a good trustful relationship. Only with the help of listening attentively, you can define fear your people may have, objections they may struggle with, or needs they may have.

This will definitely help you build an effective way of working and motivating people.

3. Being inspiring.

I believe that every good manager should be good inspirator. Because it’s not enough to set up a plan and control tasks, people are not slaves and need feedback. Not only constructive one, but positive as well.

4. Showing an example.

Behave accordingly to your declared values. Do not act on autopilot. Set goals and show the direction. Guidance will lead employees and help them stay focused.

Conquer the world and become great along with your team.

5. Troubleshooting.

Exactly. Sometimes people need your help.

If someone is in a difficult situation, lend them a hand. Protect your team as well as you require results from them.

6. Helping to achieve personal goals.

Remember your employees’ goals. Not only professional ones but personal as well. Their aims are fuels that make the most power and lead them.

7. Encouraging to be initiative.

Allow them to share their thoughts and ideas, they are a treasure for business because they know all the details of the work. Encourage them to try, take risks (of course, in a limited zone which should be increased with time) and even fall sometimes. Do not scold them for failure. Any failure even the most expensive one is a good lesson and experience.

As one of the famous people said (I do not remember the author’s name. If you know, please leave it in a comment below), Do not fire the employee who made a big mistake because you’ve already paid for it.

8. Empowering.

Give them the power of decision. Expend their responsibility zone so they will grow faster and more significantly.

9. Respecting and recognizing.

Respect your employees is a must. Recognize them publicly is a squared must. People should know their heroes.

10. Being transparent and giving trust.

Transparency and trust build a good strong and long-lasting relationship.

Summing up

As a manager, you are always under the radar of your people and colleagues. They monitor you every day, every hour, every minute. They notice not only what you say or write. Your actions are louder and more convincing than any word which is thrown or written by you. Your body language expresses you better than anything else.

Grow your team to a larger scale, dream big and do not allow anyone stopping you. Nurture your people as parents raise their children, being an example, an expert for them. Be severe but fair and stay positive. Positive enough to treat people in the right manner and create a perfect stage for them to grow.
